KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal star in KXIP’s comfortable but Nail Bitting Victory

The 114-run stand between KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal helps Kings XI Punjab to get back to winning ways by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in a comfortable but nail-biting victory at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Monday Night. The result leads Kings XI Punjab to the third spot in the points table.

Kings XI Punjab Skipper Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and elected to field first. As put to bat first the visitors Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered an early blow in the form of Jonny Bairstow at the fourth ball in the second over of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Thanks to KXIP Skipper R. Ashwin for a smart catch at midwicket. With Vijay Shankar comes to the crease, both he and David Warner found the going tough as KXIP bowlers kept a tight leash on proceedings. At the end of powerplay SRH were 27-1 and with more than 5 overs remain without boundary, Sunrisers Hyderabad only managed to reach to 50 at the halfway mark. And when its time to increase the run-rate, Vijay Shankar edged Ashwin fourth ball of the eleventh over to Kl Rahul.

With 56-2, Mohammad Nabi was promoted up the order and he too didn’t manage to score big as he becomes victim to an unfortunate run-out after adding 12 runs to the board. In the meantime, David Warner struck his fourth fifty of the season from 49 balls. One of his toughest innings. David Warner and Manish Pandey (19) then added 55 runs stand for the fourth wicket to take Sunrisers  Hyderabad to a competitive total, However, thanks to Deepak Hooda whirlwind 3 balls 14 as Sunrisers Hyderabad managed a competitive 150 in the board. David Warner remained unbeaten on 70 runs from 62 balls.

In the second innings chasing 151 for the victory Kings XI, Punjab lost Chris Gayle in the fourth over of the innings bowled by 20-year-old Afghan legspinner Rashid Khan, Thanks to Deepak Hooda for a brilliant catch as Gayle only managed to add 16 runs to the scoreboard. However, despite losing Chris Gayle early, both KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal kept the scoreboard moving. With Kl Rahul playing the role of an enforcer reached to his half-century in 34 balls, while Mayank Agarwal playing the role of an aggressor to reached to the half-century. With only 19 runs required of last three overs and nine wickets in hand, Sandeep Sharma came into the attack and picked up two wickets. First, he breaks 114 run classic partnership by dismissing Mayank Agarwal ( 55 off 43 balls) and then dismissed David Miller (1) with conceding only 3 runs in the over. Siddharth Kaul too bowled a superb second last over by conceding only 5 runs and took a crucial wicket of Mandeep Singh. Within the span of two overs the pressure shifted to Kings XI Punjab as they needed 11 runs in the last over off Mohammad Nabi. But Sam Curran scoring 5 runs of first three balls and Kl Rahul scoring a boundary on the very next ball take the chase down to two runs from two balls. However, KL Rahul managed to score two more runs on the very next ball and leads KXIP to a comfortable and Nail bitting victory with one ball to spare. Kl Rahul remained unbeaten on his knock of 71 runs from 53 balls.
