All-around KKR strangle RR by Eight Wickets for the Table-Topping win

The Openers of Kolkata Knight Riders Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn tore the bowling attack of Rajasthan Royals in match 21 played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday Evening to record a comfortable 8-wicket victory to move on the top of the points table. However, Steven Smith unbeaten Knock of 73 runs went in vain as Kolkata Knight Riders served up a clinic in all-around performance.

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Dinesh Kartik won the toss and opt to bowl first. As put into bat first Rajasthan royals huffed and puffed their way on a pitch that played slowly to start with. Despite losing Ajinkya Rahane cheaply for 5 runs by Prasidh Krishna, He with the in-form opener Jos Buttler added 72 runs partnership for the second wicket. At the half-way stage, the host-Rajasthan Royals were struggling as they only managed to add 56 runs to the board but with wickets, in hand, the host increased the scoring rate at the second half of the innings by adding 83 runs with Steve Smith scoring the majority of runs.

Jos Buttler, on the other hand, finding it difficult to play stroke but somehow managed to play a steady inning of 37 runs from 34 balls before getting dismissed by Debutant Harry Gurney in the twelfth over. Thanks to Shubhman Gill for taking a superb catch near the boundary ropes. After that Steve Smith reached 50 runs and added 23 more runs from 14 balls to take Rajasthan Royals to a respectable total of 139/3.

Despite getting only three wickets Kolkata bowled superbly and made good use of the slowness of the pitch. The debutant Harry Gurney with two wickets become the most successful bowler for the side. And while Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine were very hard to get away, Prasidh Krishna too picked up a wicket.

In the second innings chasing 140 runs for the victory KKR openers, Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn provided a flying start in the powerplay by adding 65 runs and extended their partnership to 91 runs before Sunil Narine ( 47 runs off 25 balls) was dismissed by Shreyas Gopal in the ninth over. However, the wicket didn’t hamper the momentum of Kolkata Knight Riders as they completed 100 runs in less than 10 overs and Chris Lynn to managed to complete his half-century off 32 balls along the way before getting dismissed by Shreyas Gopal. Robin Uthappa with an unbeaten knock of 26 runs from 16 balls provided the finishing touch to the side as KKR reached to the target in just 13.5 overs with eight wickets to spare.

For  RR: Steve Smith with his unbeaten knock of 73 runs from 59 balls to give his side a respectable total become the standout performer with the bat. His knock included 7 fours and 1 six.

For KKR: Both the openers become the best batting performer for Kolkata. Sunil Narine with 6 fours and  3 sixes scored 47 runs from 25 balls while Chris Lynn with the same number of runs in boundary scored 50 runs from 32 balls.

The IPL Debutant Harry Gurney with a decent spell of 2-25 in four overs become the Standout Performer with the ball.
